5 Gift Ideas for Ballroom Dancers
This time of year has all of us asking the question, “What should I buy for (insert anyone’s name here)?”
There are three types of people: those who like surprises, those who prefer to pick out their gifts, and those who don’t care either way. Which type are you?
Here’s my opinion: I could go either way, but please don’t buy me a gift for the sole purpose of purchasing a gift. If you don’t know what to buy me, a gift card is great. Blankets, candles, handsoaps, general coffee mugs… I don’t have the space!
UNLESS the blanket is to die for, the candle reminds you of me, the handsoap is Kitchen Lemon, and the coffee mug has my daughter’s face on it.
I think everyone agrees the best gifts are those with a meaning behind them.
So, as a dancer with many dance friends, here are some gift ideas for dance lovers to give meaning behind your purchase.
1. Dance Lessons
Dance lessons are the most valuable gift you can give a dancer. A person dedicated to learning and growing in their art probably spends a lot of money on their dance education.
Dance lessons, especially private lessons, add up over time. An active dancer can spend anywhere from $40-$500/month on lessons depending on their goals.
How to do this? Find out where your friend takes lessons. Are there specific dance studios they take classes? Who is their favorite instructor? Are there any master camps for their favorite dance style?
Do some digging, and your friend will love it!
2. Dance Shoes
As a Ballroom Dancer, I am referring to Ballroom Shoes here. Any Ballroom Dancer knows that shoes are essential! There are different shoes for smooth dances, rhythm dances, tango dances, swing dances, etc.
I’ve heard comments in public that dancers can be spotted by the bag of shoes in their hands.
For those of you wondering, it’s important to keep the bottoms of your dance shoes clean and dry, or they might be ruined. This is the reason dancers don’t wear their shoes outside.
Dance shoes, like dance lessons, can be expensive. Find out your friend’s favorite style of shoe, and you’re on the right track for a special gift!
3. Music
If someone loves to dance, they probably love music too. Most music subscriptions cost $9.99/month for individual plans. This means an individual spends at least $120/year on music.
What are the benefits of paying for a music subscription? There are no ads, and you can make unlimited playlists, search for specific songs/albums/artists, and more. I’ll never go back!!
If your dance friend doesn’t pay for a music subscription, they don’t know what they’re missing, and your gift will mean even more.
Popular music subscriptions: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Pandora.
4. Dance Clothes
Every dancer needs clothes to dance in. Dance clothing can range anywhere from comfortable leggings to high-end ballgowns.
I know this is only partially helpful – but you can’t go wrong with dance clothing!
What style of dance does your friend like most? Do they compete? Do they work out? You know your dancer best. If you aren’t sure what clothing style to get, then a gift card for clothing is just as good.
5. A Night Out
What does a dancer love the most? Dancing. Your dance friend is taking dance lessons for a reason, right? Gifting a night of dance is a special opportunity to put meaning behind your purchase. There are many ways to gift your friend dancing:
- Social Dances
- Concerts
- Dinner Dances
- Restaurants with Bands
- Events
Take some time and see what’s happening in your area. You’ll be surprised to find there are more dancing opportunities than you think.
